| Focus and Concentration help! |
[20 Nov 2008|12:52am] |
Can anyone suggest anything good for ADD and complete lack of focus, concentration?
(For an adult!)
I know that much of my inability to focus and concentrate on anything at all in the least bit is because of my depression but it is really really awful, I can't even sit down and get homework done anymore. :(
Suggestions?

| My evening heartbreak |
[19 Nov 2008|11:34pm] |
So I went to a makeup tutorial thing that they were having at The Bay tonight, and they had little treat bags for everyone at their seats. I moved over so a mother-daughter duo could sit down but since I had already looked in my bag, I just gave her the bag that was on my seat. I didn't notice that the bag I gave her had a qtip in it. The qtip, I came to learn, meant that whoever had it won a Fascinating Ruby compact.
I was not that person :\
My only solice is that she was younger than me and I probably own more product than she does, and maybe it'll make her a mac addict too. Like a twisted version of pay it forward. I dunno, but it's how I'm rationalising the loss of something that was like $45 that could have been mine lol.
That's all, just thought I'd share lol.

I was looking online and found a picture of emote blush next to accentuate/sculpt sculpt and shape powder and the dark shade looked a whole lot like emote blush. Possible dupe?

you know the rings that are shaped like this and sold plain? (i see them used in crafts a lot, but can't even find a picture now);
(it would be one continuous width - probably pretty thin - in the other dimension [not getting thicker at the part you see atop your finger])
what are they called? where would i find them? i searched michael's site for just "ring", and found nothing of the sort, so i'm thinking craft stores might not be the right place to look for them (or maybe they're just not actual rings, but can be used as rings? i have no idea)...but it sure would be easier if i at least knew what they were called!
thanks!

| biscotti crisis! |
[19 Nov 2008|11:07pm] |
I'm trying to bake biscotti. (as a preface, I rarely rarely bake). I'm following a recipe out of a magazine, and it looks wrong. The only liquid ingredients is butter and eggs (and vanilla) - and instead of mixing up into a dough, it's mixing into crumbly stuff that doesn't hold together. It almost looks too dry. What can I do to get it to hold together? I thought maybe there might be some milk or something, but there's nothing else listed in the ingredients.
What the ingredients say: 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened (which I did) 1 cup sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp vanilla 2 cups flour 1/4 tsp baking soda.
Help! eta: the recipe is here http://www.womansday.com/Recipes/Best-Biscotti and the comments were all complaints. So I know it's not just me. Can this be rescued?

| I'M A MOLDY COOKIE ZOMBIEEEEE |
[19 Nov 2008|11:00pm] |
HOORAY! It appears that I'm not going to die a long, slow, painful, moldy cookie related death. Today. Thanks guys!
-----Original Post Below-----
Dear Dr. Hip_Domestics,
I may have eaten an extremely moldy cookie today.
We got a basket delivered from some cookie company I'd say about a week and a half ago. It was dark in the kitchen this morning and I grabbed a cookie out of the basket and ate it, without looking at the cookie. It was delicious.
I went for a second cookie later, with the lights on, and found the cookie (as well as many others in the basket) with many patches of green and white fuzzy mold.
Let's just assume for a minute that I definitely ate a moldy cookie. It was eaten at about 3pm and I'm not dying yet or bleeding from the ears or puking. My tummy does, however, feel a little squicky, but it may just be me keeping crappy hours.
Do I need to do something about me eating that cookie or am I in the clear?
P.S. Rest assured that I have disposed of all of the cookies and the rest of the contents of the basket, as well as the basket (and cleaned the whole kitchen because I needed to anyway). Also, for the record, I do not usually leave baskets of cookies out. It just happened this one time. Never again.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with suggestions for a sparkly pink blush!
I went back to Sephora today, tested a lot of the stuff, and ended up buying Bare Minerals Face Color in Rose Radiance. My 2nd favorite was Too Faced in Pink Provocateur, so I might end up getting that one of these days, too.
Anyway the Bare Minerals is perfect -- a very light, clear pink with barely noticeable sparkles, which means I can wear it for work and play both! My husband couldn't even tell I had it on, which made me very happy! (I don't want to look like I have blush on, I just want to bloom with radiance, haha!)

| Natural treatment/therapies for ADD/ADHD? |
[19 Nov 2008|09:36pm] |
I could use any help you can give me on ADD - my son's preschool would like for him to be observed and/or evaluated. He's 3. My son's doctor is a DO and had to offer an evaluation legally, but roundabout suggested trying a different preschool and learning style (montessori) first.
Is there anything I can do to help my son deal with any inattention issues he has? When we stay at home and play together there are NO issues. :( So this is driving me a little crazy. If I am busy with photo editing he can get stir crazy and I imagine this is what's going on at school.
More background: - Teacher is sweet, energetic and almost sugary. - Aide has training in childhood disorders; I think that's where this started. - My son doesn't sit and listen well at school - story time and chapel are hard on him. - He breezes through his activities and/or doesn't want to sit and do them. - Academically, the school doesn't come close to challenging him. He can write the whole alphabet, his name, spell a little, sound out simple words, knows his colors, knows shapes (pentagon, octagon, hexagon), can count past 20 and knows what 100 means and how to identify it. They're still working on circle, triangle, and square and identifying letters. - Socially, this has been wonderful for him. I hate to pull him out because of it. - Teacher is getting a little negative with me. I don't want to go to school because of it. I'm a perfectionist, and her nagging is getting me down and angry. - School is pretty much kindergarten, down to the pledge and everything. - I'm a geek. My husband is too. I'm very 'artistic' and you could say scattered. DH is very numerical, etc. We're both musical and high IQ. I'm leaning toward my son not really being label-worthy, but slower in social skills because of his advanced language/numerical/musical interests. - I don't think this applies, but the kid is very tall for his age. He looks 5. - There may be sensory issues (at least with food) to go along/exacerbate/mask the ADD-like behaviors
Does anyone have experience? Therapies? Help?
Thank you very much for anything you can offer!!!

| Keeping bread longer |
[19 Nov 2008|10:42pm] |
I work at a Me & Ollie's cafe, and get day old loaves of bread for free. Our bread has no preservatives. It sits on our shelf for 2 days before we donate it, or take it home. The problem I have is that I can never finish the loaf. Everything molds within a few days.
Is there anything I can do to keep the bread from molding just a little longer so I can finish it?
I've tried freezing it the day I bring it home, and then thawing it out again, but that doesn't seem to slow down the molding process.
I live on the East Coast for the past year, within a few miles of the ocean. I'm not used to having things mold so quickly.
